Planning foot forward

It's Groundhog Day 2021 and according to Phil the meteorologist-rodent there will be six more weeks of winter.

If this is correct may I suggest you take the next six weeks to plan foot forward.....

Winter is the best time to plan for home improvements.  And this includes your outdoor living space.  Take this time to research plants and shrubs that suit your zone.  If you plan to DIY - check with your local plant nursery for assistance in which plants and shrubs will grow best in the space where the garden is placed, as well  as design tips.  Be creative with the actual garden layout and the flower varities used.  Annual flowers serve as a great fill-in before the perennials begin to fully bloom.

Outdoor sitting areas are used for different purposes.  Are you planning to use this outdoor space for entertaining or a quiet peaceful escape?   Furniture that is used to entertain typically would not be added to the meditation garden.  If you're going for an elegant tea setting surrounded by a colorful flower garden, then light breezy wicker furniture and accent wrought iron tables creates the classic English garden setting.  Shaded coverings with comfortable chairs and overstuffed pillows creates the perfect place to relax from working in the yard.  As shoppers scour online stores for the best outdoor furniture deals, my suggestion is make a list and compare prices carefully. Some stores will have more inventory than the competitor - and during the winter months offer a discount.  *Though September is considered the best month to grab a deal on outdoor furniture, if you are in the market searching for furniture now, plan today for competitive pricing!

Planning foot forward for spring and summer during these cold winter months not only gets you prepared and ready to begin your project, it will elevate stress in order for you to enjoy your new surroundings.  Now you're ready to begin your DIY outdoor project!
